Do & See
Breck Cottage is ideally situated for all that Orkney offers from archaeology to fishing to watching the wildlife.
We are just a four minute drive from Skara Brae and fifteen minutes to the internationally renowned Ness of Brodgar. We offer discounts to archaeologists working on local digs over the summer months – just call us to discuss. Check out the Orkney Archaeology Society, Ness of Brodgar Trust and Orkneyjar websites to check out what’s happening in local archaeology.
There are many good trout fishing lochs within a few minutes’ drive including Harray Loch, Boardhouse Loch and Swannay Loch.
Visit the puffins on the causewayed Brough of Birsay between May and July. Seals are common around the Orkney shores and can often be seen hauled out on Birsay beach a ten minute drive away. Watch hen harriers from the kitchen window as they hover and swoop after their prey. Lie in bed and listen to the curlews that roost and feed in the fields all around.
